My first musky was in 1991, measured 36”, and that's when everything changed! Just like everyone else, when I caught my first musky, I was struck with 'Muskie Fever'. Throughout the years, I hand tied my own bucktails and hand carved top waters and crank baits. As time went on, I noticed a trend in the market that most baits resembled fish and there were not many baits that represented an actual animal. I am a firm believer that Muskie and pike, mainly the larger ones, have at one point in there life eaten muskrats, mink, squirrels ducks or any small animal that enters the water. After some contemplation, I thought of a way to recreate the life like appearance of an animal swimming in the water.
Once I had the bait completed I had to name it and since my nick name has been Beaver my whole life, I decided to name it after myself and that is how the Baby Beaver was born.

Rudolph Theodore Beck Jr. is know by most as Ted Beck because Mom said there were to many Rudy's in the family. His father Rudy and grandfather Rudy were avid outdoors man and started little Teddy at a very early age. He likes both hunting and fishing but fishing is his passion. Fishing for pan fish on Sugar Lake, walleye and big northerns on Red Lake, Brown trout on the Straight river, and Lake Trout on Lake Superior life was good. Then came Brian "BEAVER" Boyum “Hey you want go Musky fishing?” That trip was a major life change. No more pan fish, no more walleye and big northerns, no more Brown trout, and no more lake trout. Shortly after meeting Brain, he told me about a lure he made a few years ago and now his son was sticking big fish on it. He said I need to make some more of these lure and go fish them. Away they went and Ted became a very experienced net man that weekend. Watching Beaver get his PB on his new lure and multiple fish that weekend Ted suggested to Beaver that he should sell his new lure and so began Beaver's Baits. After working with Beaver for a year or so Beaver asked Ted to be a co- owner of the company. Ted accepted and has been working with Beaver ever since committed to making quality fishing lures.

David Holmes
Head Marketing Manager & Owner of David Holmes Guiding

Service in Minnesota. David grew up along the St Coix river, and has been chasing river fish for as long as he can remember. He started his guiding career while going to college in Southern Wisconsin, chasing Musky and Smallouth bass on rocky, tannic rivers. After graduating, David moved back north to the Twin Cities area, got his USCG Captains Liscense and now guides full time on the Upper Mississippi and Upper St Croix rivers, running a jet boat and putting his clients on the fish of a lifetime.

David fishes and guides many musky with a fly rod, so when he discovered the Beaver Bait he was instantly enamored with it. The lifelike flowing, seemingly weightless action of the beaver is deadly in moving water, and the fish just cant resist it. In 2023 Brian reached out an asked David if he would be willing to take over the Beaver Baits marketing and social media work, which he was more than happy to accept.

I met beaver back in the late 80s. We started fishing together 30 years ago. Back in the day beav always tied us bucktails. We'd buy blades beads hair wire and he'd tie us up tails for the year. We both had families so money was tight. We'd buy an occasional crank bait or surface bait but mostly we would burn bucktails till our hands hurt. We've logged literally thousands of hours on the water together. Those were some of the best times of my life. If you want to out fish beaver make him stay home. Due to life we lost touch for a few years. I called him up again in 2012ish and he told me about the baby beaver. And since that time I've watched this thing become a phenomenal player in the musky industry. Why? Because they flat out catch fish. What I will tell you is this beaver puts his heart and soul in every bait that goes out the door. These days we get about 1 trip a summer but when we get together it's just like old times except for the sore old bones lol. To see this unfold over the last 30 years and watch it progress from making baits for personal use to baits for anyone who wants one has been an honor and a privilege. Do your self a favor: if you've never tried a beaver get one. You won't be disappointed. It's almost impossible to run wrong and after a whole day on the water my hands don't hurt.
